Strong Play Continues in NFL Europe

As NFL Europe is one weekend away from its World Bowl, Tim Engelhardt and the Barcelona Dragons have already clinched the bowl berth. But other Vikings needed to play well and did, as their teams jockey for a bid in the big game.

Several Vikings players remain key parts of the NFL Europe as the season continues to roll along. No less than seven Vikings are in the league and here were the highlights of Week 9 in the NFL’s minor league.

* DT TIM ENGELHARDT, Barcelona Dragons, started versus Scotland.
* DT WINFIELD GARNETT, Amsterdam Admirals, started and posted one tackle and a pass defensed.
* T JAY HUMPHREY, Scottish Claymores, started against Barcelona.
* WR LONNY MITCHELL, Scottish Claymores, had two receptions for 24 yards and a 13-yard run.
* LB RYLAND WICKMAN, Frankfurt Galaxy, had two special teams tackles.
* LB ANTONIO WILSON, Barcelona Dragons, started and had one tackle and a pass defensed.
* DE ANTWONE YOUNG, Berlin Thunder, started and recorded one sack, a fumble recovery and six tackles.

TUESDAY NOTES
* Maybe Randy Moss just needs to lower the competition level to succeed in basketball. He scored 43 points in a celebrity tournament hosted by Daunte Culpepper in Raleigh, North Carolina. Moss has enjoyed little success in the bush league USBL, but had his hoops skills working for him in the A&B Celebrity Tournament, leading his team to a 116-112 overtime win.
* The Vikings have claimed fullback DeWayne Miles off waivers from Detroit.
